Controlled Drugs (CDs)
The Controlled Drugs (Supervision of Management and Use) Regulations 2006 were introduced as part of the Government’s response to the Shipman Inquiry’s Fourth report. The aim of these regulations was to strengthen the governance arrangements for the use and management of controlled drugs. Good governance of controlled drugs should apply in all healthcare settings where controlled drugs are stored, prescribed or administered.
The Medicines Optimisation Team has produced various procedures, policies and guidance to ensure that healthcare settings adhere to legal requirements and good practice advice. Copies of the guidance can be found under the guidelines section. Further information can also be found in the controlled drugs newsletters, produced by the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Area Team under the newsletters section.
