Medicines Safety Officers
What are Medicines Safety Officers?
A Medicines Safety Officer`s (MSO) role is to improve the reporting and learning from medication incidents across health care professionals. They form part of a national network and are supported by the MHRA.
MSOs work within all sectors of healthcare and are based within all areas of the NHS including Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), hospitals and community pharmacies.
Who are your Medicines Safety Officers?
Within the Medicines Optimisation Team at Nottingham & Nottinghamshire ICB we have a Nottingham & Nottinghamshire MSO Operational Group. Each year they develop a medication safety work programme which draws from national, regional and local medication safety priorities. This is done in collaboration with the MSO Network Group to ensure wider engagement, input is also sought from relevant specialists to provide messages, resources and tools that align across the system. The group links with the Quality & Safety Integrated Pharmacy & Medicines Optimisation (IPMO) Pillar which aims to tackle wider system safety initiatives, including social care.
The NNMSO Operational Group members can be contacted via: nnicb-nn.mso@nhs.net for any medication related incidences or ideas for future workplan initiatives.
