The Medicines Optimisation Team supports all providers in Nottingham & Nottinghamshire ICB.
We also provide services and work with Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Councils, Nottingham University Hospitals, Sherwood Forest Hospitals Foundation Trust, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and the wider Integrated Care System (ICS).
Medicines are the most frequent healthcare intervention, with approximately £100 million being spent annually within GP practices across Nottingham & Nottinghamshire ICB. It is estimated that around 14% of total ICB budgets will be spent on medicines.
However managing medicines is more than just costs. Medicines Optimisation focuses on how medicines are used by patients and the role that evidence-based prescribing has in supporting new care pathways and treatment models to improve patient outcomes. Patients should be supported to take their medicines safely and feel able to discuss and review their medicines with anyone involved in their care.
Resources on this website are mainly provided for NHS primary care health workers with the aim to help them make safe, effective and good value choices for prescribing, thus optimising health improvements for our local population.
Members of the public are welcome to view this site, however, if you have any medicines related questions or health concerns you may obtain further assistance by consulting the NHS website.
